The International Symposium on Electronic Art is Coming to Vancouver
The 21st International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) is coming to Vancouver August 14-19th, 2015. ISEA will feature workshops, tutorials, panel discussions, artist talks, and institutional presentations, allowing for a wide range of opportunities to engage with creative, groundbreaking work in digital art from around the world. This year’s theme centers on disruption, “the aesthetics of change, renewal, and game-changing paradigms … raw bursts of energy, reconciliation, error, and the destructive and creative forces of the new.” Canadian keynote speakers include Dr. Sara Diamond (President of OCAD University) and Brian Massumi (University of Montreal professor and author of Politics of Affect). The five-day symposium will close with The Yes Men addressing subversion and disruption through the use of creative expression.
ISEA was first held in Montreal in 1995. In the past twenty years, the symposium has traveled around the world, consistently exemplifying the fascinating intersections between academia, art, and science. The symposium encourages interdisciplinary discussion about creative production, new technology and media, and modes of interactivity. Registration for this year’s event is open until Aug 9, 2015.
