"The Banff Center is hosting the Rocky Mountain Series of Theatre Alberta's popular Workshops by Request. In the first master class of the series, Calgary’s Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre will present a workshop with Darren O’Donnell of Mammalian Diving Reflex. This masterclass will focus on the basics of Mammalian’s “social acupuncture” method to create innovative ways for artists to engage and interact with the public. Through discussions, case studies, exercises, and designing and testing out performance interventions in the Banff community, participants will gain tools and ideas for developing an artistic practice that is socially-minded, playful, and engages members of their own communities. This workshop will be of interest to theatre practitioners working in site-specific theatre, participatory performance, and experimental theatre practice. No experience with Mammalian's methods is necessary."
