13th Anniversary of the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts

The Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts is celebrating their 13th anniversary! Since January 2003, the Nina has worked to "provide a supportive place where people with developmental disabilities can become practicing artists." Executive Director, Wendy Hollo says "There are no boundaries at the Nina Haggerty Center.  “We are all about saying yes,” “We can always figure out the how later.”  The Nina's website states that the Center is "one of the few places where people with developmental disabilities have complete freedom of expression, perhaps for the first time in their lives.  They are not told what to do or how to do it.   If their art doesn’t fit any preconceived definition of what constitutes art, we widen the definition.  It all has value and it all tells us something about the artist who created the piece from nothing."

The CBC recently visited the Nina in Edmonton to find out more about the Centre's work in the community. Check out the full article here to see photos and video of the space and meet the talented artists who spend time at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts.
