If you are in Toronto before July 25, visit the Water Shed, a live art installation produced by documentary theatre company, Porte Parole. The installation is an “intriguing structure that places people at the centre of a playful dialogue with Water.” The project is the product of two years of research for a play on fresh water that led to “a realization that many Canadians have abstracted water in their everyday lives.” Working with freshwater scientists, environmental policy-makers, advocates, and artists, the structure was created to invite people to engage with the “miraculous and mysterious presence of water, both around us and inside of us.” Porte Parole hopes to tour the Water Shed through Canada and the United States following its first full presentation in Toronto.
Porte Parole is Montreal-based and uses documentary theatre, a method where stage artists record current event stories from multiple perspectives and then mediates those perspectives through the performance of a play. The company’s eight productions have engaged with a number of controversial contemporary issues.
